The City of Maumelle held a groundbreaking ceremony for Gateway Park on Friday, February 28, 2025. The event marked the beginning of construction on the new community focused park, located at the corner of Maumelle Boulevard and Millwood Circle, the former site of the city’s police and fire departments.

The park is designed to serve as a gathering space for residents and visitors, with areas planned for food trucks, live entertainment and recreational activities. Maumelle Parks and Recreation Director Phillip Raborn emphasized that the project builds on the city’s recent investments in public amenities, including pickleball courts and an inclusive playground for children of all abilities.

Mayor Caleb Norris described Gateway Park as a transformative project for Maumelle, highlighting its role in connecting the Regional Greenway Trail and Maumelle Corridor. The park, he noted, is expected to strengthen community connections while attracting families and businesses.

Friday’s ceremony featured appearances by local officials, retired members of the police and fire departments, and members of the public, who gathered for coffee and a ceremonial turning of dirt. Demolition of the former building commenced the following Monday.
