As the chief human resources officer for the Arkansas Municipal League, my role extends beyond managing our internal HR functions—I am also here to support you. With more than 25 years of experience in the field, I’ve encountered a wide variety of HR challenges and opportunities. While I don’t claim to have all the answers, I work closely with the League’s legal team and maintain a broad network of subject matter experts. If I’m unable to answer your question directly, I will always connect you with someone who can. I also want to encourage you to work closely with your city attorney on HR issues that might have legal implications. They are often your best resource.
The summer issue of City & Town felt like the perfect opportunity to highlight the many HR resources available through the League. When you reach out with questions or concerns, these are often the very tools I turn to for guidance, and most can be easily accessed on our website at armuni.org/education and armuni.org/publications. Resources listed below with an asterisk indicate a League publication, and each includes a link to the publication. I’ve also included links to additional external resources that may be helpful. Just click the topic header to expand each section.
Another valuable resource for HR professionals is the archive of past City & Town issues. You will find numerous articles that Caleb Alexander-McKenzie and I have written—independently and collaboratively—on a wide range of HR topics.
As always, the League is here to support you. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
